From our expertise as podiatrists and sports specialists at ALP we analyse running to identify for poor or incorrect technique. Although there is some debate and controversy about running technique, having studied the subject at Masters level we confident that any advice given by us will be evidence based and effective. Many specialists consider good running technique as vital to many athletes wishing to improve their running times, be it from running more effectively or from preventing recurrent injury from plaguing a training programme.
We will analyse your technique and offer advice on mistakes and how to correct them. Good running style depends on your overall posture, head position, arm swing, pelvic alignment, leg positions and foot strike, as well as stride length, cadence and vertical oscillations. This process can only be made in conjunction with a biomechanical examination – for example if there is weakness or tightness then strength, conditioning and mobilisations will be necessary before any long term adjustments to a running style can be made. During this process we will discuss footwear and the merits of foot orthoses.
